Chapter 15
Watching the way the two people interacted, which was different from that of ordinary friends, Garrett felt a strong sense of disgust in his heart.
He was about to ask Ruth who this person really was when he heard her words, and suddenly became confused again.
“It was my fault, Ruth. Will you forgive me? Give me another chance, I promise I won’t make the same mistake again. From now on, you will be the only one in my heart, and I will never stray again.”
Ruth had heard another version of these solemn promises five years ago.
Back then, Garrett promised to pursue her just like that.
But what was the result?
So when she saw him make this promise in person again, Ruth couldn’t help but find it laughable.
“Why do you think I would leave behind a life of complete liberation, only to turn around and continue a marriage that is worse than death with you? And why do you think I would give a second chance to a man who is untrustworthy and goes back on his word? I am not a saint, and this is not a garbage collection center. You have mistaken me for someone else.”
Garrett’s face gradually turned extremely pale in these few sentences.
He did not understand why things had developed to the current state today.
He felt his mind in a chaotic state, with emotions of regret and fear gradually devouring what little sanity he had left.
He really wanted to explain everything clearly, but when he thought about those things he had done himself, he felt there was no way to
argue.
The atmosphere froze like this.
I don’t know how long it had been, when a familiar voice came from the entrance of the villa.
“Garrett!”
Anne, who was still recovering from a serious illness, gasped for breath as she chased after Garrett and grabbed him tightly. Ruth took just one glance at the hands of the two people interlocking, and Garrett immediately snapped out of his daze. He swiftly shook off her grip, as if avoiding a venomous snake, and forcefully pushed her down to the ground.
Anne never expected to make such a big fool of herself in front of Ruth.
She looked up in anger and immediately caught sight of Garrett’s indifferent gaze and the smile that flashed across Ruth’s lips.
She understood this laughter as a mocking revenge, and the fire in her heart burned even stronger. Unable to control herself, she started acting again.
“Garrett, what are you doing? Did the lady say something to you again? Didn’t you promise me last time that you wouldn’t believe hearsay? You said the lady has a bad temper and acts childish, and asked me to be more tolerant towards her. I have been following your words…”
“Shut up!” you said to me.
Her tea talk was only halfway through when she was silenced by Garrett’s extremely cold gaze.
Ruth watched as the two people performed this scene, feeling a profound sense of meaning and couldn’t help but offer her comments.
“Anyway, we had already divorced, so let her continue talking. I’m quite curious, to be honest, about how a person I sincerely liked for five years turned out to be such a hypocrite with a deceitful nature.”
Garrett’s eyes suddenly widened to their fullest extent, as he hurriedly tried to explain, only to be interrupted by Anne’s shocking words.
Chapter 15
“Have you divorced?”
Ruth nodded with a smile, looking at the person lying on the ground with an indifferent expression on her face.
“Separated, and from now on, we will definitely not remarry. Congratulations, Anne, you can take over now.”
Every word and sentence stabbed into Garrett’s heart like a knife.
He trembled uncontrollably, looking at Ruth with despair in his eyes, only to see her calm smile.
This relieved smile was a hundred times more painful for Garrett than these words.
He felt ashamed to face her and was afraid to hear more words that would make it even harder for him to accept.
He could only escape, stumbling and staggering, in the gradually darkening sky.
Escape from this place of unbearable pain.
Chapter 16
Anne had not yet recovered from the sudden surprise when she was let down.
She watched as Garrett’s figure gradually receded into the distance, propping herself up from the ground and slowly standing up. Just as she was about to catch up, she suddenly remembered something, swiftly turned around, and triumphantly looked at Ruth.
“Ruth, I have always said it, you have no chance of winning against me!”
Ruth watched her quietly, step by step, slowly descending the stone stairs, until she stood in front of her.
She was about five centimeters taller than Anne, so with just a slight downward glance, she could see the arrogance in Anne’s eyes.
Thinking of the pocket watch that had been ruined by soaking, and all the past events, Ruth felt that it was also time to settle the score
with her.
She moved her fingers and joints, a polite smile appeared on her face, and then, in Anne’s puzzled eyes, she slapped her hard.
With a crisp slap, Anne’s already flushed face due to illness swelled up. Unable to withstand the force, she fell several meters away.
Although there were no pains and numbness in her fingertips, Ruth felt extremely relaxed both physically and mentally.
She bravely met Anne’s almost burning angry gaze with a fearless expression on her face, and spoke softly.
“This slap, I return it to you. Do you have any dissatisfaction?”
Anne didn’t expect that she would suddenly take action.
But she didn’t have the strength to fight back now, she could only clutch her throat and scream incessantly.
“Ruth! You wait for me! Garrett will know about what happened today, and he won’t let you off the hook!“.
Upon hearing these words, Ruth’s smile grew even brighter on her face.
She squatted halfway down, raised her hand, and slapped herself on the left cheek again.
The two matching crimson handprints on both sides aligned, which made her OCD much better and her tone became cheerful.
“This slap was for my pocket watch, and now we’re even.”
“Of course, if you want to retaliate against me, feel free to bring Garrett along. I wouldn’t mind giving him a few slaps as well.”
After saying that, she didn’t look at Anne again and confidently stood up..
As she turned her head, Ruth saw Liam, who was lying in front of the window with a displeased expression on his face.
The two people locked eyes, and he immediately ran to the door and opened it. He gently rubbed her hand, his tone filled with tenderness.
“Why didn’t you call me when you were fighting? Did your hand hurt?”
As soon as she saw him, Ruth’s heart softened a little.
“It doesn’t hurt, next time if you have the chance, can you help me with it?”
Liam’s face finally improved a bit when he heard her soothing words so gently.
He helped her to the dining table and sat down, then took a few eggs into the kitchen to cook.
Watching him busy himself over such a trivial matter, Ruth let out a sigh and wanted to call out to him.
“It’s okay, it didn’t swell up, so there’s no need to boil an egg.”
Liam didn’t listen at all. He cooked by himself and only then walked over to sit beside her, taking out an egg and rolling it slowly in her flushed palm.
