Chapter 1
The day my kingdom fell, I climbed into the werewolf prince’s bed and begged him to spare my father and brothers.
He devoured me with kisses, leaving me breathless. His claws marked my skin as if he wanted to carve his fury into my very flesh.
By sunrise, he tossed my father’s severed head at my feet, his golden eyes ‘burning with cruel delight.
“You shattered my spine with a silver chain. And under the guise of a false truce, your father murdered my people.
“This is only the beginning of what you owe.”
I knelt in the blood–soaked snow, numb to everything.
For three long years, he poisoned me with wolfsbane, using my human body to test its limits, never granting me the mercy of death.
Each time I tried to end my life, he would kill one of my people in front of
- me.
Then one day, his lover threw my newborn baby into the Pit of Fenrir as an offering to boost her cursed bloodline.
That’s the moment I gave up fighting.
The poison I took to save him so long ago is now killing me from the inside.
I have five days left to live.

Blood poured out of my mouth, soaking my white dress in red.
That’s when Kieran Higgins finally noticed.
His face showed disbelief, worry, and fear.

He dropped to his knees, lost and shaken.
Compared to him, I felt strangely at peace.
“Kieran, I’m tired.
“I don’t want to live like this anymore. Take your revenge if you want.
“But I don’t owe you anything.”
His warm tears fell on my neck, and he shouted, panicked and furious, “Be quiet! Don’t say that! Who gave you the permission to die?”
But deep down, he knew there was nothing left he could use to make me stay and no way to stop me from leaving.

When Kieran found me, I was drenched in blood, clutching my child’s last bone deep inside the Insectspire Cavern.
He stormed over and knocked the bones from my hands, fury burning in his voice.
“You stole Cassidy’s Moonflower!”
I didn’t bother explaining that it was originally mine. Cassidy Lesnar had taken it from me after I nearly died giving birth to his child.
I simply lowered my head and kept quiet.
Kieran grew more furious and yanked my arm harshly.

“Jolene Yanetta! Are you mute? Or just ignoring me?”

That’s when he finally noticed the open wounds on my hands from digging in cursed dirt and the burns left on my skin from the pit’s poison.
Suddenly, Cassidy’s retching interrupted him.
“My Lord, her smell… I can’t take it anymore.”
Before I could respond, Kieran shoved me down once again.
Cassidy leaned in close, her voice sweet but cold like poison. “Please forgive me, Jolene. The baby in my womb has made me overly sensitive.
“They say a newborn’s heart is the strongest cure for a curse. Even though I’m weak, I need it to survive. Thank you for the gift.”
Everything went dark in front of me.
The child I carried for nine months–also his child–was nothing more than an ingredient to her.
Cassidy’s sickening voice didn’t stop.
“These cute little dresses are perfect. Since you don’t need yours…”
I had stitched those dresses with my own hands, sewing wolf patterns into them, just like the one Kieran once designed for me.
He used to wrap his arms around me with a soft smile.
He whispered, nuzzling his nose against my neck, “Our baby will wear this. A werewolf, just like me.”
I glanced over at Kieran, but he looked away awkwardly, avoiding my eyes.

Cassidy always got her way with him. If she asked for my blood, he’d cut my wrists. If she admired my embroidery, he’d lock me in a tower until her wedding gown was done.
So, what do a few garments mean now?
“Take them.
Kieran suddenly lifted his head and stared at me, unsure of what to say.
Cassidy stared at my wounded hands with excitement in her eyes.
“They say your harp can enchant even the Moon Goddess. Play a song for me and for my child.”
That night, as my son’s remains lay cold at the bottom of the pit, I played my harp until the strings tore my skin.
The hall started to spin, and I collapsed.
Kieran’s angry voice thundered through the hall, “That’s enough! Get out!”
A wine glass smashed near my head.
I got to my feet, but the world spun wildly before I collapsed back to the ground.
The person in the bright yellow clothes jumped up, ready to rush toward me, but suddenly froze in place.
Kieran let out a cold laugh and said mockingly, “Jolene, stop acting like some helpless victim.”
I wasn’t acting. This was just the first sign that the poison was working.
