Chapter 1
my ex–mate
mate during the lowest point in his life.
I broke up
Je up with m
Later, he rose to power and tame and became the most influential Alpha. Then he used every means at his disposal to seal the mate bond with me.
Everyone said I was his first love, his forever girl, his true love.
Until he started bringing different women home every night, in slapped me hard with the truth
I didn’t cry or make a scene. I simply moved into the study and stayed quiet, never interrupting his intimacy with his mistresses.
He went mad with anger, fiercely kissing my lips and questioned me quietly, “Aren’t you jealous?”
What
he didn’t know was that I was dying of a terminal illness,
Every single day he spent talking revenge on me was just one more tick in my countdown toward death.
Three years into our mate bond, Asher took a young, beautiful college student as his kept woman.
Her name was Amy. She was sweet–looking, innocent, the exact type Asher always liked.
He was never one for attachment–hit flings never lasted more than a month. But with Amy, it had already been over six.
Aside from me, she was the woman who had stayed by his side the longest.
I overheard the maids gossiping. They said Asher would soon break the mate bond with me and made Amy the new Luna
The first time I saw Amy
by was on my birthday.
I had a nosebleed that morning and went to the Pack hospital. The pack doctors said my heart was beginning to fail. If I didn’t get a transplant, I’d have only about three months left.
But I was an Omega with a rare blood type. The park doctors told me there wasn’t a matching heart in the organ bank.
1 just nodded and whispered that it was okay.
I wasn’t afraid of dying–just afraid of pain.
I’d heard there was a very expensive drug that could ease the suffering, make the last stretch bearable.
I checked my bank account. The money wasn’t enough. So I went to Asher’s pack office to ask for help.
Coincidentally, Amy was there too. She had just graduated and was now working as his secretary.
Asher was in a meeting, so I waited outside the conference room.
Amy kept staring at me, then whispered to the others around her, “That’s our Luna? Seriously? She looks awful, like a skeleton. Is she dying or something?”
“You all say I look like her. No way. I’m way prettier.”
The glass walls reflected my image back to me hare–faced, thin, almost ghostly.
They weren’t wrong. I wasn’t pretty anymore. And I really was dying
One of the coworkers whispered back and warned, “She’s just not wearing makeup. I saw her during the mating ceremony. She was breathtaking. Her beauty is as rare and radiant as the full moon in the sky.”
“And I’m telling you, don’t mess with her.”
“She’s the Alpha’s treasure.”
Hearing that Asher loved me deeply, Amy clearly didn’t buy it. She pursed her lips in defiance and rolled her eyes at me.
She brought me a cup of coffee and smiled sweetly. “Sorry to keep you waiting, Luna. Alpha said he’s still busy.”
took the coffee and said nothing
Then she kept going, like it was her own personal show.
品
“It’s weird. Every time I used to come see him, no matter how busy he was, he’d always make time for me. He told me I was his top priority.”
“I thought maybe he treated every woman that well..”

To be fair, when she smiled, with her eyes crinkling like that, it reminded me of my own younger self.
I thought about it. Asher did treat Amy differently.
He had countless mistresses, treating them as tools to spite me. Every night, he’d bring home someone new, testing how I’d react.
He never kept them around for long. A day or two. Maybe a week or two. He always got bored fast.
Except for Amy.
He let her move into one of his pack houses. He dined with her, took her shopping, watched movies with her.
They looked like a normal, loving couple. He gave her money and affection.
I looked at Amy and smiled gently
“If you’re that important to him,” I said softly, “then why would he keep you hidden lilo a secret?”
“You should talk to him. You should convince him to break the mate bond with me and make you his new Luna”
Amy’s expression shifted instantly. She glared at me and hissed under her breath, “Haven’t you heard the new Hermès ad?”
“Being public doesn’t mean being the one he loves most. But if he keeps you hidden, you’re definitely the one he loves most. Real love stays in the heart, not on the lips. The truest love lives in dreams, not in the eyes”
She looked me up and down, taking in my
y worn–out clothes with disdain.
Then she smirked and said, “The real side piece is the one who isn’t loved. You’re the extra here, not me.
One of her coworkers probably feared I’d get angry and rushed over to pull Amy away.
But honestly, I didn’t mind.
I’d already made a promise to myself: I would never get angry over Asher again. And I would never feel sad because of him.
And I certainly would never let myself get jealous over him and wasn’t going to fight another woman over a man like him.
Because he wasn’t worth it.
