When she woke, she found herself inside a sprawling villa.
Xander had her locked in the room. Though he didn’t tie her up, she couldn’t escape unless she jumped off the balcony.
Finally, she gave up struggling and slumped on the edge of the bed.
Xander walked in with a meal, crouched before her, and said softly,. “Honey, you must be hungry. I had the kitchen make your favorite dish.”
He fidgeted with the chopsticks and bowl as he spoke.
Caitlin lifted her eyes, her gaze icy cold.
She knocked the meal over with a swipe of her hand, fuming, “You dragged me here. Are you trying to keep me as a pet?”
She never thought he’d go this crazy.
Xander looked at the mess on the floor, choked up, and said hoarsely, “I wasn’t trying to kidnap you.”
“I just wanted to see you, but you kept avoiding me. I had no choice but to resort to this. I just want to talk.”
“Talk? Talk about what?!”
Caitlin’s fingertips trembled slightly as she steeled herself before speaking: “Should we discuss why you fell for Eleanor, or how you conspired to hurt me?”

“It’s not like that,” he rasped, voice thick with suppressed emotion. “I never loved her. It was just momentary weakness – I couldn’t control my y weakness – I couldn’t control my desires. Only later did I discover how she’d betrayed me by hurting you. I’ve made her pay, and I’m sorry you endured this…”
Hearing this, Caitlin curled her lips into a icy smirk.

All those past grievances and sufferings him, conveniently blaming Eleanor alone while absolving himself completely.
She lifted her gaze, her eyes filled with mockery: “So? You think saying ‘I didn’t know‘ can erase all the humiliation I’ve endured this past month?”
Xander’s Adam’s apple bobbed, his voice dropping to a near–plea: “Honey, I’m sorry… I’ll spend my whole life making it up to you.”
He knelt on the ground like a devout believer, begging for Caitlin’s forgiveness.
“Make it up?”
Caitlin’s lips curled sarcastically, “Xander, do you remember how you treated me time and again for Eleanor’s sake?”
Xander froze.
Her words, sharp as knives, stabbed into his heart-
“At that business dinner, you were convinced I’d forced Eleanor into compromising situations. Afterwards, you had thugs teach me a lesson.”

Chapter 24
“At the annual gala, to soothe her pride, you threw my family heirloom necklace into the ocean and dragged me to apologize–making me fall from the building and nearly die.”

“That time when confidential information was leaked, to protect her, you pushed me out to take the blame. I spent three days in detention, living like neither human nor ghost.”
“That kidnapping incident, you believed her slander and insisted I was the mastermind. You strapped me to an operating table without anesthesia and cut me ninety–nine times…”
With every word she spoke, Xander’s mind replayed the memories, his face growing paler.
But Caitlin didn’t stop there.
She lifted her skirt to reveal that hideous scar covering her thigh.
