Absolutely horrifying!!
Xander collapsed to the floor, reaching out to touch it but pulling back halfway.
Then he clenched his fist and slammed it onto the marble floor–punch after punch until his knuckles were mangled flesh, yet it couldn’t compare to one ten–thousandth of the agony in his heart.
“I’m sorry…”
His voice was hoarse, eyes bloodshot: “Wife, please… give me one more
chance.”
He spoke rapidly, as if fearing interruption: “I’ll repay every hardship you endured bit by bit. When your anger fades, can we start over?”
Caitlin watched his torment with icy detachment.
Just as her refusal formed on her lips, Xander snatched a fruit knife nearby and plunged it into his thigh without hesitation.
The blade withdrew, blood splattering across the floor.
Then came the second stab, the third…
Each thrust landed swift and brutal. He repeated the motions like a man numb to pain, yet cold sweat drenched his forehead, his face ghastly pale.

Caitlin’s roar cut him off.
Genuinely frightened, she swallowed her panic as frost gathered in her eyes: “You think self–harm in front of me makes amends? This only disgusts me.”
Xander shuddered at her words.
“Not amends,” he lifted his gaze, pupils drowning in unfathomable darkness. “It’s what I owe you.”

“My mistake was letting you witness this carnage. Ninety cuts remain—I’ll finish them outside. This debt must be repaid.”
He rose unsteadily.
Then limped out in agonizing silence, dragging a serpentine trail of blood across the floor.
Separated by a door, both fell into stillness.
Xander was like a man possessed, stabbing himself relentlessly one blow after another. Not once did he cry out in pain–only the dull scrape of blade against flesh echoed through the air.
Yet that sound cut deeper than any scream.
Only when the knife clattered to the floor did this bloody debt settle.
Caitlin finally stepped forward. Just paces away, Xander lay collapsed in a pool of blood, his breaths fading to whispers.
Seeing her emerge, he forced himself upright.
With his last shred of will, he crawled to Caitlin’s feet and lifted his head. “Wife,” he rasped, “do you remember promising me one chance?”

Caitlin remembered.
She had indeed made that vow.

Back when the Jackson Group went public, Xander’s net worth
skyrocketed overnight. Combined with his good looks, he became the target of many women’s ambitions.
Once, he nearly fell into a trap.
Someone had drugged his drink, almost causing him to lose control. In the end, he called Caitlin, his wife, to come to his rescue.
At the time, Caitlin didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
She asked half–jokingly, “You managed to control yourself this time, but can you do it every time in the future?”
Xander couldn’t even guarantee that.
To walk through a garden of flowers without getting a single petal on you is an immense challenge for any man.
After a moment of serious thought, he asked in return, “If… if I really made a mistake, would you forgive me?”
Caitlin was taken aback and thought carefully.
Then she said to him, “Yes, but only once.”
That offhand assumption from the past had unexpectedly become reality.
This was Xander’s last hope.
He clutched Caitlin’s skirt, tears welling in his eyes as he pleaded, “Give me one more chance, please?”
