Chapter 9
After Dylan left, Aiden showed me a clip of him hurting Rachel at the
casino.
There was a hint of jealousy in his voice, and he spoke carefully, “Kaylee, don’t fall for his act. Guys like him are dangerous. They won’t even leave you scraps.”
I laughed, my eyes sparkling.
“We’ve already got our marriage certificate. What are you so nervous about? Even if I stayed single forever, I’d never choose someone like him.”
Aiden let out a long breath and pulled me close.
He leaned against my shoulder and whispered. “I’m glad to hear you say that.”
The next morning, a scandal broke out.
The video of Dylan hurting Rachel at the casino went public.
The Gabbard’s residence was taken over, and all their assets were wiped
out.
At the same time, the police found Rachel. One side of her body was paralyzed.
Dylan was accused of hurting people and encouraging others to harass women. He was thrown in jail.
When the officers came to arrest him at the Gabbards‘ residence, Camilla broke down in tears, screaming, “What did I do to deserve this? My life is
full of suffering!”
The baby she held in her arms wailed loudly.
But none of that matters to me now.
Today is the day Aiden and I get married.
He planned everything just for me, pink flowers everywhere and a ceiling full of glowing stars at the hotel.
I walked through the blooming red roses and reached out to him with excitement.
The pastor’s voice rang out, solemn and clear, asking if we were willing to spend our lives together.
I glanced at him with a smile and said without thinking, “Yes, I do.”
My grandmother and the rest of the Winslow family were sitting in the crowd, laughing so much they couldn’t stop.
One day after we got married, while holding our child, I asked Aiden a question, “What made you decide to marry me?”
His face tensed up, and he spoke with frustration, “I’ve had feelings for you since we were kids. How could you not see that?”
I blinked and said honestly, “I really had no idea.
Juliet chuckled and gently took the baby from me.
“It’s not surprising. He used to cry and beg to date you back in middle school. Your mom and I decided to send you both overseas to keep things quiet.
“It was to stop you from getting into a relationship too young.”
Aiden gave his mom a bitter look.
“Mom, I almost lost my wife.”
I laughed and hugged him tightly.
“No way! Your wife is always here!”
The end.
