Seeing my surprise, he added, “Arthur went to Europe six months ago to expand operations.”
So after I left, Arthur left too.
I gestured at the younger man. “This is Lucas Woods, my assistant.”
Marcus burst into laughter. “What, is this kid born under a ‘wood‘ sign?”
Lucas fired back, “And you must be missing ‘water.“”
They hit it off instantly.
Both naturally outgoing, they quickly bonded.
Before long, Marcus was dragging Lucas to test–drive his Maybach.
Lucas nervously drove for five minutes before pulling up at a barbecue stand.
While Lucas ordered, Marcus stretched. “That kid reminds me of myself when I was younger.”
I jabbed him in the ribs. “You’re thirty–two, not ancient. Don’t play the wise elder.”
He popped open a beer and grinned.
