Chapter 7
But why did you have to bring her in front of me, Arthur…?
“Elaine, sign it,” Arthur urged.
Vivian was clinging to his leg like a lost child, leaning against him for support.
And he he stood so tall, so composed.
In that moment, she looked exactly like I once did.
I used to hold on to his coat like that, waiting for him to fix everything I couldn’t.
But the man I once relied on–he was gone.
I bit my lip and held back tears. Slowly, I shook my head.
“I won’t forgive her.”
Arthur frowned. “Come on, babe. Don’t be petty-”
Before he could finish, Vivian suddenly lunged and grabbed the knife from the table.
“Elaine, I’ll pay with my life!” She slashed her wrist, and blood gushed out.
“Vivian!” Arthur panicked. He dropped to the floor, grabbing her arm and tying it off with a cord.
Vivian whimpered weakly, “Arthur… my life is worthless. If I die, at least I won’t come between you
and Elaine.”
Arthur’s face flushed. His breath turned shaky.
Then he looked at me–with eyes full of blame.
“Elaine, she’s bleeding in front of you and you still won’t forgive her?”
“She’s begging you! Why won’t you let this go? Why are you so cruel?”
