Chapter 10
Sylvie trembled as she dialed Devin’s number.
“Didn’t we agree to cut off contact?” Devin’s voice was cold, “The agreement to sever our father–daughter relationship has been sent to you. It’s almost the end of the month, you must go to Orlando in the next two days!”
“I only have one question,” Sylvie’s voice was hoarse. “Back then, did you give me to Alaric for training, or did he ask for me?”
“What was this for?”
“Tell me!”
Devin fell silent for a moment. “It was him. He traded it for the project in the south of the city. Anyway, I was tired of looking at you, so it was a win–win situation.”
The phone fell to the ground with a “crack“, and the screen shattered.
Sylvie suddenly burst into laughter.
Laughter echoed in the empty villa, laughing heartily, laughing until tears streamed down.
“Alaric… you really did a great job.”
It was not until some time had passed that Sylvie dried all her tears, walked into the room, and dragged out the suitcase that had been packed long ago.
She walked towards the door step by step, each step feeling like walking

on a razor’s edge, yet she walked with exceptional determination.
At the entrance, she stopped in her tracks.
His fingers absentmindedly rubbed the lighter in his pocket.

That was a birthday gift from Alaric, with “To Syl” written on it by his own hand.
She suddenly laughed.
The next second, she lit the lighter without hesitation and threw it towards the curtains.
The flames shot up with a loud roar, quickly engulfing the entire living
room.
Sylvie stood outside the villa, quietly watching as the flames engulfed their once intimate sofa, kissed dining table, and that bed.
The bed she used to naively believe that he also had a moment of
affection for her on it.
Alaric came back an hour later.
The black sedan screeched to a halt in front of the villa, its tires making a loud noise as they rubbed against the ground.
He pushed open the car door and was greeted by a towering blaze and Sylvie sitting on the trunk.
She quietly watched the burning villa, the firelight reflecting on her pale face, with tears still hanging on her eyelashes.
Alaric’s chest tightened.
He had millions of questions to ask, but when he saw her eyes turning

red, all of them got stuck in his throat.

“He burned down the house,” he finally spoke in a low voice, “Are you satisfied now, Ms. Sylvie?”
Sylvie slowly raised her eyes.
Those eyes, once filled with love, now only hold a sense of lifelessness.
She looked at Alaric as if he were a stranger, not saying a word.
“Mr. Savrelle,” the assistant hurried over, “the private plane has been arranged, the meeting in Switzerland cannot be postponed any longer.”
Alaric pressed his forehead and said, “Take care of this villa.”
He paused and looked at Sylvie, “Take her to the house in the south of the city.”
“No need,” Sylvie finally spoke, her voice hoarse and resolute. “I’m going home.”
Alaric thought she had finally compromised and agreed to return to the Ainsley’s residence, his furrowed brow relaxing slightly. “It’s best if you can come to terms with it.”
He turned around and took a step, his black windbreaker fluttering in the night wind, “I can’t always have your back.”
Sylvie stood still, watching as he walked further and further away, a faint bitter smile appearing on her lips.
“Alaric,” she whispered softly, her voice so light it was almost carried away by the night breeze, “Farewell.”
“What?” he turned back.

Sylvie had already opened the car door and gotten into the taxi.
Alaric didn’t ask any more questions as he thought she just had a tantrum, he just got into the car.
He didn’t notice that two cars were driving towards the airport, one in front of the other.
In front of the private jet’s parking apron, Alaric took the documents handed to him by his assistant and boarded the plane without looking
back.
In the terminal, Sylvie handed over the rent and medical expenses for the past half month to Alaric, then threw her phone into the trash can and walked towards the boarding gate to Orlando without looking back.
Two planes took off simultaneously, heading in opposite directions, never
to intersect.
