“The Garrow family from Orlando and the Savrelle family from Chicago have never met. How did Mr. Savrelle come here?”
The guests‘ whispers spread throughout the banquet hall.
All eyes were focused on the tall figure at the door.

Alaric stood there, looking sharp in his suit, but with a terrifyingly dark expression in his eyes. His gaze was fixed on the intertwined hands of Sylvie and Hershel, as if he wanted to burn a hole through that hand.
“Why was Mr. Savrelle staring so intently at Ms. Ainsley? Was he trying to steal her away?”
Hershel almost immediately shielded Sylvie in his arms, his arm stretched out in front of her like an invisible wall.
Sylvie, unexpectedly, remained calm.
She looked at Alaric and suddenly smiled, “Mr. Savrelle, how come you’re here? Are you here to deliver wedding gifts?”
This sentence was like a knife, stabbing fiercely into Alaric’s chest.
His jaw tightened, veins bulging, his voice hoarse and unrecognizable: “Syl, come back with me.”
Sylvie smiled even more deeply: “Go back for what? To continue watching how you love Clarisse?”
“I didn’t like Clarisse!”

Alaric almost growled, his voice exploding in the banquet hall, causing a commotion throughout the room.
“I liked you!”
The guests gasped in shock and the murmurs instantly erupted.
“Sure enough, he came to steal the marriage!”
“Didn’t they say Mr. Savrelle was pure and not interested in women? How could he suddenly fall for Ms. Ainsley at the same time as Mr. Garrow?”
“This battlefield was too exciting…”
Alaric took a deep breath, suppressed his out–of–control emotions, and said in a low voice, “Let’s talk somewhere else.”
Hershel sneered, “Mr. Savrelle, you are not welcome here.”
Sylvie gently held his hand and said, “It’s okay, I will talk to him.”
Hershel frowned, clearly worried, but eventually nodded: “I’ll accompany
you.”
Sylvie shook her head, “I’ll go by myself.”

In Maybach.
Sylvie sat in the passenger seat, calmly looking out the window.
Alaric sat in the driver’s seat, his tie askew, the collar of his shirt slightly open, his eyes bloodshot, clearly having rushed over in a hurry.
He had never been so embarrassed before.
“The monitoring thing, I copied it, but not to threaten you,” his voice was

hoarse. “I just… wanted to keep an eye on myself.”
“I had someone take care of the matter at the detention center. My intention was to prevent you from getting hurt, but I didn’t expect Clarisse to use my name to have people bully you.
“My study is off–limits to you because I’m afraid you’ll discover I’ve hidden your things in there. As for Clarisse’s photo, she bribed a servant, to put it in there.
“Clarisse and Thalia are now married to a seventy–year–old man, with no hope of escape, and your dad’s company has also declared bankruptcy.”
He explained word by word, as if he wanted to lay bare all the misunderstandings to her.
Sylvie listened and then simply asked, “And then what?”
Alaric was stunned.
“Then…” his voice trembled slightly, “come back with me.”
“Syl, the one I have always liked is you.”
Sylvie laughed.
That smile was gentle, but it felt like a dull knife slowly cutting into Alaric’s heart.
“Alaric, you knew my situation,” she said softly, “but you still sided with Clarisse time and time again.”
“Even if you don’t like her, you really hurt my heart.”
“I had gradually forgotten my feelings for you during that time.”
“Now, it can’t be picked up anymore.”

Alaric’s fingers suddenly clenched the steering wheel, his knuckles turning white.
His voice trembled: “Syl, I am not a god… I did make a mistake, but can’t you allow me to make a little mistake?”
“Is the price of making a mistake to lose you forever?”
Sylvie looked at him, her eyes calm to the point of almost cruelty. “Yes.”
“I don’t hate you, but I won’t love you anymore.”
She took out a gold–embossed invitation from her bag and handed it to him.
“Three days later, Hershel and I got married.”
“Knowing Mr. Savrelle’s character, he probably wouldn’t make another humble request for my forgiveness.”
“In that case, let’s all be a little proud.”
“Good gather, good scatter.”
After speaking, she pushed open the car door and walked towards Hershel waiting on the side of the road without looking back.
Alaric sat in the car, watching her walk away, suddenly remembering the scene of the first time he saw her.
She was wearing a red dress, arrogant and charming, like a fire, unexpectedly burning into his black and white world.
And now, that fire has been completely extinguished.
