Mason’s eyes were bloodshot; his fists clenched.
He lashed out at Zoe Jackson.
“Why him? I won’t accept this, Lanie. If you don’t want to marry him, I’ll help you escape! We can go abroad, back to LA, wherever you want!”
Zoe Jackson could have easily dodged the blow, but he merely shifted his head slightly, letting Mason’s hand graze his cheek, leaving a red mark.
“Oof-
He lightly touched his cheek, a grimace twisting his features.
Even injured, his handsome features remained striking.
Seeing his injury, I was distressed and reached for his hand, wanting to examine the wound.
“It’s fine. I’m not hurt. It doesn’t hurt,”
he said, forcing a smile.
My concern only intensified.
Resentment flared towards Mason.
“Mason! Why did you hit him? When did you become so impulsive?”
His anger was barely contained.
He hadn’t realized I was completely focused on Zoe, ignoring his earlier words.
He knew how hard he’d hit, or rather, not hit.
He felt unfairly accused.
“I didn’t hit him! He’s not hurt! Lanie, come with me! He’s not a good guy!”
He reached for my hand.
I instantly pulled away.
This is my family home, my home. I’m not going anywhere with you. You hit someone and won’t admit it.”
My tone was icily cold.
Ethan, Mason, we’re not friends anymore. You’re not welcome at the wedding; you weren’t sincere.”
I took Zoe Jackson’s hand and walked towards the house.
Security guards barred Ethan and Mason’s entry.
They remained outside, until late at night, when my parents came to send them away.
“Ethan, Mason, leave. Our family doesn’t welcome you.”
“We don’t want Lanie with people like you. Who knows if another Qiana might appear?““You’re both wonderful; don’t waste your time on Lanie.”
My mother pleaded.
My father stood silently, his expression serious.
Ethan’s eyes were bloodshot; his usually composed features were etched with exhaustion.
Mason was equally worn down.
Seeing their persistence, my parents sighed, finally instructing the guards to escort them away.
They had tried to prove their devotion, but Qiana’s betrayal had made it impossible to trust them fully.
Ethan and Mason exchanged a look of defeat.
