Chapter 25

Rebecca’s POV

When I finally blinked open my eyes, the world was a muted blur of dim light and shadows. My head throbbed with a dull ache, like the echo of a distant storm. I was lying on something cold and hard, unfamiliar beneath me, and the air smelled faintly of old wood and something metallic

Slowly, I sat up, only to see two pale figures watching me their skin ghostly white, their red eyes piercing in the gloom. Vampires Guards, by the look of them. Their posture was relaxed, almost courteous, but the faintest curl at the corners of their mouths told me they were predators beneath their calm

Where am I?” I asked, my voice rough. Let me go.”

They didn’t answer, but neither did they move to harm me. Their silence spoke volumes.

I was in some kind of mansion the walls were tall and imposing, adomed with dark tapestries, and the air was thick with the scent of ancient, wood and something faintly metallic. It felt like a tomb

Before I could think too much, a door opened, and they led me through long halls to a large room where the vampire king sat surrounded by the royal clan. They were majestic and terrifying, their eyes like burning coals

You’re awake,” the king said smoothly, his voice a cold velvet that pressed down on me. We’ve been waiting.”

I felt a chill. Why am I here? What do you want from me?”

—

He gestured to a table set with food a strange, rich meal and I was forced to eat. They were polite, almost kind, but I could taste the menace beneath it all. Vampires are cunning; kindness is a trap

After the meal, the king began to speak, his words deliberate and weighted

The poison that infects our kind has spread through our clan, killing many. The royal bloodline itself is at risk. If the poison consumes us, our kind will fall into extinction.”

My heart clenched. I knew of the poison

how it could twist and kill, how it had crippled Alpha Maximus

The seer, he continued, has spoken. The cure lies in your blood your life essence. You are the key.”

I stared at him, disbelief crashing over me. You want to kill me? Use me like some tool?”

He shook his head. Not kill. Sacrifice. One life to save many.”

The weight of that sentence fell over me like a shroud. One lifemine.

They showed me what the poison had done. We traveled to their homes vampire families shattered by the sickness. Children left parentless, mothers and fathers ravaged, households crumbling into despair

I saw their pain, their desperation

They didn’t ask me to choose. They told me it was inevitable. If I agreed to give my life, countless others would be saved. Families woul be healed. Children would grow up with their parents by their side

My wolf stirred inside me, screaming against the idea. I wanted to run, to fight, to tear the world apart rather than accept this fate. But a deeper part of me, the part that had felt so broken and alone for so long, was numb

What was my life, really??

My father, Alpha Rowan, barely looked at me, treating me like a stranger. My mother was dead a fading memory lost to grief. Maximus my mate, was trapped in his poisoned body, slipping further away from me each day

What did I have left? Nothing but this hollow existence, this looming shadow of death

Tears burned behind my eyes as I stood before them in one last cold room, the air heavy with silence.

Fine,I said at last, voice barely a whisper. Take my life.”

The words felt like a shattering glass inside me, but there was a strange calm beneath the despair. Maybe this was the end. Maybe this was the only way

I closed my eyes and let the tears fall freely

But my wolf still howled in defiance not ready to surrender yet.
