My dad showed me his phone just as I was hanging up with Rex. He had called, begging me to re–sign. I refused. Why try to mend a bridge that had been burned to the ground? It would never be the same.
Seeing the stern look on my dad’s face, I figured I had to tell them sooner or later. I took a deep breath and confessed everything.
My parents looked at each other, stunned. There was no joy on their faces about me marrying into a wealthy family, only deep concern.
“Son” my dad said gently, “from what you’ve told us, she seems like a good person. But… our families are worlds apart. We’re worried her family will look down on
you.”
“And since nothing has happened between you two, and there are no feelings involved, maybe it’s better to just get a divorce,” my mom added. “It would save her from feeling trapped in the future.”
I looked down, my mind filled with images of Aurora defending me. To ask for a divorce now felt like the ultimate betrayal. Besides, in our short time together, her
respect and genuine care for me were palpable. It was a feeling completely different from anything Bella and Zoe had ever given me.
Hooked up at them. “Dad, Mom, no matter what, just meet them first. If her family shows even a hint of disrespect towards us, then we can call the whole thing off.”
