Daniel was still in his suit, as if he had just finished a business meeting.
He stood there, tall and straight, the pressure around him seeming to drop.
Behind his glasses, his probing eyes were fixed on me
Then, his gaze flickered to the open trunk of the car.
His eyes grew colder.
“Are you moving dorms?”
My palms started to sweat.
It was a sign of danger.
I instinctively hid the fact that I was going abroad.
“I’m not used to living in the dorms,” I said quickly. “I want to live off–campus.”
“With him?” Daniel narrowed his eyes, his reply swift.

His sharp gaze shifted.
It landed on Cole.
His face grew colder.
Before I could answer, he spoke again, his voice low and dangerous.
“No wonder.”
“You haven’t been contacting me much lately.”
His Adam’s apple bobbed, a sign of his restraint.
He raised a hand and slowly, deliberately, took off his glasses.
His face was a mask of ice as he walked toward me.
Then, slowly and calmly, he gently took my hand from Cole’s shoulder, as if he was handling a fragile piece of glass.
The next second, he turned.
I heard the sound of wind whistling past my ear.
fist, veined and angry, landed on Cole’s face.
Then he squatted down, grabbing Cole’s collar.
His expression was still terrifyingly calm.
“Cole, right? I’ve investigated you.”
