“Gabriella, stop making a fuss. You know my work is special.”
I retorted: “Special enough to require discussing with your female assistant in one room until 2 AM?”
I took out my phone and opened the photo album.
“Special enough that she can call you baby, while I, your wife, have to make appointments in advance to have dinner with you?”
Lily’s expression changed, but she quickly put on that innocent face again.
“Gabriella, you misunderstood.”
“Yesterday, there were too many documents, we…
“Shut up.”
I rudely interrupted her.
Henry’s frown deepened.
”
“Gabriella! How can you speak to Lily like that? Everyone knows she’s my most capable assistant!”
I sneered and asked him: “If she’s so excellent, then tell me, what exactly has she contributed to the company? How many big deals has she brought
in?”
Henry fell silent again.
Lily lowered her head, pretending to feel guilty.
“Gabriella is right. I do have many shortcomings and can’t share more pressure for Mr. Grant.”
Seeing this, Henry immediately patted Lily’s shoulder sympathetically and turned to glare at me.
“Gabriella, enough!”
“Lily has been working day and night for this acquisition case. Can’t you see her dedication?”
“What gives you the right to question her?”
“Day and night work?” I sneered, “Yes, even during our wedding anniversary trip, sticking to you like glue. She works so hard, how exhausting.”
Henry’s face instantly flushed red, and he raised his voice: “Why don’t you drop that sarcastic tone?”
“Lily is my assistant. Her job is to assist me. What’s wrong with that?”
“Should I drop all my work just because you’re throwing a tantrum?”
“Throwing a tantrum?”
I repeated Henry’s words, suddenly finding it incredibly absurd and laughable.
I pointed at Lily.
“You two shared a room until dawn last night, and as your wife, I could only stay alone in my room.”
“She boldly touched your hand in front of me, and you didn’t even bother to dodge.”
“Since she joined the company, no matter what happens, as soon as she opens her mouth, it’s always my fault.”
“I can’t even question anything!”
“So in your eyes, all of this is just me throwing a tantrum?”
Chapter 2
Henry was momentarily speechless. Lily hastily explained: “Gabriella, you really misunderstood. I only have respect for Mr. Grant, absolutely no other
thoughts!”
“No other thoughts?” I sneered, “Even dogs wouldn’t believe your words!”
Henry’s reaction was like lighting a fuse, immediately shielding Lily behind him.
“Gabriella, enough!”
“Lily is my employee and my friend. I won’t allow you to insult her like this!”
I stared into Henry’s eyes, trying to find a trace of guilt or hesitation.
Unfortunately, there was only stubbornness and anger.
I suddenly felt tired, utterly exhausted.
I was too lazy to listen to more of this nonsense and turned to leave.
“Gabriella!” Henry called after me, his voice carrying a hint of panic, “Where are you going?”
I didn’t look back.
