Chapter 3
This time, Alfred took the divorce papers but didn’t put his signature on
them.
A few days later, he called again saying there had been a
misunderstanding. Melissa had forgiven me and wanted me to cook another beef soup and bring it to her.
glanced down at the flowers and plants I had spent two days cleaning, now sitting in a trash bag by my feet.
I ended the call and blocked his number.
Dead plants need to be pulled out and thrown away.
After tossing the last trash bag, I handed the old house’s key to the real estate agent.
Just as I was about to buy my plane ticket, I remembered that my
important documents and jewelry were still locked inside the safe at the new house.
Without informing Alfred, I headed straight back to the new house.
The door code had been changed and my fingerprint no longer worked, so I had to use the key to open it.
Right when I stepped inside, I saw two people tangled up on the sofa.
Melissa’s soft voice reached my ears.
Alfred was moving roughly but trying to hold back as he pushed hiinself to the climax.

He was drenched in sweat, but still kissed Melissa deeply and gently wiped her clean.
“You’re still as tempting as you were that night.”
Melissa’s cheeks turned bright red, and she tapped his chest while
laughing softly. “You’re annoying. You can’t control yourself! What if you hurt the baby?”
A buzzing noise filled my ears, and their voices blended into a confusing mess around me.
Even though I had guessed before, hearing Alfred say it aloud made me tremble and feel nauseous.
So, it wasn’t that he disliked children, he just hated the baby I was carrying.
That day, I was standing in the hospital hallway holding the doctor’s report saying I couldn’t have children when he called me.
His voice sounded sorry, and his apology felt honest.
But it turned out it was all a lie, and my trust was just a part of his plan.
I pushed my suitcase hard.
The suitcase slammed loudly against the door frame.
When Alfred saw me, he quickly grabbed his bathrobe and helped Melissa into the bathroom.
“Clean yourself well so you don’t get an infection.”
Melissa glanced at me before stepping inside the bathroom.
I walked directly into the main room to grab my stuff.
Alfred wrapped his arms tightly around me from behind.
I used to long for his hugs, but now they just make me feel disgusted.
“Let go.” I said lightly, without any anger in my voice.
“It’s not what you think. I looked it up–pregnant women in their second and third trimesters can have those urges. It helps them feel better. We don’t have any feelings for each other.”
I gave a helpless laugh and kicked his sensitive spot, “Do you think it’s funny to treat me like a fool?”
The sharp pain in his sensitive spot made Alfred gasp.
“I was worried you’d be upset if you found out. But since you know now. I’ll just be honest with you.
“I didn’t know she would get pregnant. By the time she came to me, the baby was already far along. My parents kept pushing me to have a child. Since neither you nor I like kids, I just wanted her to have the baby to quiet my parents down.
“Doned under our names. You won’t have to deal with
“Don’t worry, she isn’t fond of kids either. When the time comes, the child will be
childbirth pain, and she’ll pay a good amount in child support.”
I looked at Alfred and, for the first time, I found him really strange.
The way he calculated things was so different from what I thought of him.
“Alright.” I said with a bitter smile, walked past him, entered the password, and opened the safe.
Inside, it was empty.
