Chapter 5
King Alaric’s face darkened like thunder,
his
is gaze piercing me as if trying to burn through my
by very bones.
“Your Majesty…” Lord Cedric hurriedly reminded him, “Lady Evelyne is still waiting ”
Alaric snapped back to himself. “Fine. I grant you three days before you leave the palace. But Selene, don’t regret this.”
With that, he stormed out, Daisy quickly helped me to my feet.
I wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth with my left hand.
Regret? Not a chance.
Inside this palace, death was inevitable anyway.
I didn’t care before I died, I had to save Daisy’s life.
The three days passed swiftly
Daisy finished packing and handed me a cup of te
flea.
“High Priestess Selene, have some water first. The guards will be here soon to escort us out.”
I reached out with my left hand to take it, but the moment I touched the cup, my strength failed, and it slipped from my fingers, shattering on the floor.
Daisy hurriedly knelt to clean up, but halfway through she couldn’t hold back her tears.
“High Priestess, your condition is worsening… you can’t even hold a cup anymore.
I reached up and gently stroked her hair, forcing a faint smile.
“That’s why I’m worried about you coming with me,‘
Daisy shook her head emphatically, her voice steady despite her tears.
“I’m willing to follow you, High Priestess. I’ll never leave your side, not for a lifetime.”
I was momentarily stunned, then let out a soft laugh
Poor girl. There was no lifetime left for me now.
Suddenly, footsteps echoed outside. Daisy’s eyes lit up.
“The guards must be here! We’re finally leaving!”
She went inside to grab her bag. I stood up from the bench, but before I could move, the door burst open. A sudden force grabbed my throat before I even had a chance to respond.
1 looked up, and the furious face of King Al
“Where is Evelyne?” he demanded.
Lady Evelyne?
King Alaric came into view–his eyes bloodshot with
1 was stunned, unable to understand why the king was questioning me about her whereabouts.
But his fury was unbearable he looked as if he wanted to kill me on the spot.
“Bring Evelyne back at once! Or I’ll make sure you regret every breath you take!”
My lips trembled as forced que
words
“L. I don’t understand, Your Majesty I’ve never seen Lady Evelyne How could I possibly know where she is?”
Stop lying!”
He threw me across the root.
I slammed into the table, pain exploding through my body, stealing my breath.
Palsy rushed out, falling to her knees.
“Your Majesty, please! High Priestess Selene’s body is still weak She can’t take this kind of punishment. I beg you–show her mercy!”
“Get lost, you insolent wretch!”
The king kicked her aside.
“Daisy!”
my eyes widened, and 1 struggled to crawl toward her.
In an instant, a sword pressed cold against my neck
1 froze, staring at Alaric’s grim
face
The blade sliced a shallow cut across my skin.
“It’s been three days since you woke, and Evelyne has disappeared without a trace. We’ve searched the entire palace. Who else but you would want to see her gone?”
Darkness swarm before my eyes.
Evelyne was missing, and the king believed I was responsible.
Blood trickled from my mouth as I whispered, “Your Majesty, do you truly believe that someone as weak as I could evade the guards and abduct Lady Evelyne?”
Alaric’s brow furrowed deeply, and at that moment, Lyra appeared.
“Of course you couldn’t have done it in your state,” she said coldly, “but you know witchcraft. With accomplices, you could have cursed Lady Evelyne. It would have been easy.”
At that moment, a trembling maidservant knelt before the king
“Your Majesty, I saw Daisy near Lady Evelyne’s chambers just the other day…”
Daisy’s eyes widened in shock
“I didn’t! I swear I didn’t!
The guards moved quickly to seize Daisy. Panic surged through me.
*Let her go! She never left the Moonlight Tower!”
