Chapter 10
“Are you really… really going to divorce her?”
Clarissa looked up at him, her pale lips trembling slightly, though a flash of joy flickered in her eyes.
She suddenly threw herself into Sebastian’s arms: “I thought… I’d never have a chance to be with you again in this lifetime.”
Sebastian froze for a moment, then wrapped his arms around her frail shoulders.
He clearly loved Clarissa and wanted to marry her, but his chest ached with an inexplicable dull pain.
He instinctively rubbed his temples, figuring it was probably because he hadn’t slept well all night, making him emotionally sensitive.
“Rest well. Once you’re better, we’ll get married.“]
He patted Clarissa’s back, his voice unconsciously softening.
The moment Delilah saw the doctor enter, she immediately asked: “How’s my daughter?“]
“Don’t worry, the patient is physically fine. It’s mainly temporary fainting caused by extreme shock, which is why she passed out.“[]
The doctor removed his stethoscope. “Keep her for overnight observation. If there are no major issues tomorrow, she can be discharged.”
After hearing the doctor’s words, Connor’s tense shoulders finally relaxed.[]
Clarissa tugged at Sebastian’s sleeve at just the right moment, her voice coquettish: “Sebastian, I’m a bit hungry. I want these apple pie from the corner shop.“]
“Sure, wait a moment. I’ll go buy them now.”
Sebastian agreed without hesitation. As he turned to leave, he bumped into his bodyguard rushing in from the door, blood still on his hands.
He recognized the man who had rescued Elizabeth at the cliff.
“Where’s Elizabeth? Why don’t I see her?“]
The bodyguard looked confused–the old Sebastian never cared about his wife’s whereabouts.
“Mr. Whitmore, Mrs. Whitmore didn’t come to the hospital with us.”
- “0
The bodyguard lowered his voice. “But she asked me to give you a gift. It’s in the car. She said it was for your birthday… Would you like to see it now?”
Sebastian’s steps faltered. He remembered she had indeed said she’d prepared a gift for him.[]
But her giving gifts wasn’t strange–she’d been giving him gifts for years, though Sebastian never paid attention to them.[]
He recalled Elizabeth’s response from last night’s phone call, feeling inexplicably irritated.]
“No need, just leave it there“]
Chapter 10
His tone was cold.]
“Probably just some meaningless stuff. I’m not in the mood to look at it.“[]
He was about to leave when he heard the bodyguard add: “Mrs. Whitmore also said you must open this gift personally.“]
Sebastian let out a cold laugh.[]
They were getting divorced, and she was still playing these hard–to–get games?]]
He pulled out his phone to check the time, then headed toward the elevator: “Tell her I’m not interested. And don’t send any more gifts. I don’t like them anyway–I’d just have to throw them away.“[]
As the metal elevator doors slowly closed, he found himself inexplicably thinking of Elizabeth.]
Her face appeared uncontrollably in his mind.[]
He remembered she always said she had stomach problems, yet habitually made strong coffee whenever she worked late.[]
Despite her fear of heights, she’d actively accompany him mountain climbing.
Even last week, when he’d casually mentioned wanting Orange Chicken, the next day her homemade dish appeared on the table.[]
“Sir? How many apple pies do you want??“]]
The shop clerk’s voice interrupted his thoughts.
“One please.”
Sebastian took the paper bag, his nails unconsciously digging into his palms.[]
It was just a few years of marriage. Why should he dwell on Elizabeth’s dispensable acts of care?]
He didn’t love her anyway.[]
When he returned to the hospital, Clarissa was delighted: “You’re still the best to
me!“]
Sebastian smiled as he handed over the dumplings, but his mind was still on Elizabeth’s whereabouts.
His phone screen suddenly lit up.
He quickly opened it, only to find it wasn’t a message from Elizabeth.[]
Sebastian felt inexplicably disappointed.[]
