Chapter 6
When Elizabeth woke up again, she found herself lying in the mansion’s bed.[]
Exaggerated laughter and anime dialogue blared from outside her door, the volume cranked so high the walls seemed to vibrate.[]
She struggled to sit up and pushed open the door, only to see Clarissa sitting cross–legged on the living room carpet, hugging a bag of snacks and laughing hysterically at the TV.[]
“Oh, you’re awake!” Clarissa turned around, still grinning. “Sorry, was I too loud watching anime?“]
She deliberately crunched her chips loudly: “I’ve been feeling a little unwell lately, and the air here is just so refreshing. Sebastian thought it’d be good for me to stay a few days and rest… You don’t mind, do you?“[]
Elizabeth instinctively looked toward the sofa-
Sebastian sat there, his
ng fingers flipping through financial reports, his eyes cold and focused behind gold–rimmed glasses.
The TV was blasting, but he didn’t even frown.[]
Elizabeth suddenly remembered something from her diary:]]
ㄓ
[He got angry again today because I was sitting nearby eating an apple. He said the chewing sounds were distracting him from work and told me to leave.]]
[Remember: when he’s in his study, even breathing needs to be quiet.]]
But now…]
Clarissa was crinkling chip bags loudly, the anime was playing exaggerated fight scenes, yet Sebastian didn’t even lift his head.]
The difference between love and indifference was so obvious.
She was about to speak when Sebastian suddenly said, “If it weren’t for that accident all those years ago, you’re the hostess of the house anyway.“[
His tone was indifferent, his gaze still on the documents: “She’s just a stealer. You don’t need to ask her permission.“[]
“Right, no need to ask my permission,” Elizabeth said calmly. “Stay as long as you want.”
Sebastian’s page–turning fingers paused slightly. He finally looked up at her, his gaze sharp behind his glasses.[
This wasn’t like her.[]
Usually, she’d either break down crying hysterically or hold back tears with red eyes. She’d never be this… calm.[]
Buy this oddity only lingered in his mind for a second.[]
He looked away and continued working on his documents.
After all, he never thought much about anything concerning her, and certainly never cared.[]
Elizabeth didn’t care what he was thinking either. She went back to her room and closed the door.[]
Chapter 6
For the entire day, Elizabeth locked herself in her room, listening to the constant grating sounds from outside.
Clarissa had the TV volume maxed out watching variety shows, clicked across the hardwood floors in high heels, and even opened Sebastian’s prized wine collection to go with fried chicken.[]
Every single thing she did crossed Sebastian’s boundaries.[]
Once, Elizabeth had accidentally touched his bookshelf and received cold stares; when she made noise walking in slippers, he’d frown and stop her; not to mention touching his wine… But now, she clearly heard Sebastian just say indulgently, “Slow down, no one’s taking it from you.“[]
Elizabeth didn’t emerge until dinner time.]
The table was already set with dishes, and Clarissa sat beside Sebastian, her eyes sparkling with laughter: “Sebastian, these are all my favorite dishes!”
“Mm,” Sebastian’s gaze was tender, “How could I ever forget what you like to eat?“[]
Clarissa blushed and turned to see Elizabeth at the doorway, immediately calling out: “Elizabeth, come eat!“]
Elizabeth silently walked to the other end of the table and sat down.[]
Right now, Clarissa looked like the hostess of the house, while she felt like an intruder.[]
She took a bite of the dish in front of her, but after just two bites, her throat started itching.
She frowned and tried another dish, but the discomfort only intensified.]]
“Elizabeth, what’s wrong?” Clarissa suddenly exclaimed. “Why are there red spots on your hands? Are you having an allergic reaction?”
Elizabeth looked down to see her arms were indeed covered in red rashes.]
Her breathing became more labored, and she tried to speak but couldn’t make a sound.[]}]
She struggled to point toward her purse, where she kept emergency medication. Clarissa frantically got up to check, but accidentally knocked over the scalding soup bowl-
“Ah…”
The boiling soup splashed all over Elizabeth’s already inflamed arms, the searing pain bringing instant tears to her eyes.]
She watched Sebastian rush over-
But he pulled Clarissa into his arms!]]
“Are you burned?” He nervously checked Clarissa’s hands, his voice dripping with tenderness. “How could you be so careless?”
Elizabeth’s vision went black, and the last thing she saw before losing consciousness was Sebastian’s back as he carried Clarissa away…]
When she woke up again, she was in a hospital bed.[]
A nurse was changing her IV: “Your allergic reaction was so severe, you almost died. Plus second–degree burns on top of that. How is it that after two days, no family has come to see you?”
Elizabeth opened her mouth to speak, but heard voices outside her door:[]

“I heard Sebastian booked the entire floor?“]
“Yeah, just for those minor burns on Miss Clarissa’s hands.“[]
“He spoils her so much. If he’d come any later, the wounds would’ve healed already…“]
Elizabeth slowly closed her eyes: “I don’t have any family.“[]
