The ambulance lights flickered through the night as Sebastian gripped Clarissa’s hand tightly, his knuckles white from the pressure.
Clarissa curled up on the stretcher, panic written all over her pale face.]
Connor and Delilah hovered anxiously beside her, watching her every move, terrified she might feel even the slightest discomfort.
“Why aren’t we there yet? How much further to the hospital?“]
Sebastian watched the endless red lights ahead, his impatience growing as he urged the driver on.[]
Clarissa suddenly coughed a few times in his arms.

Sebastian immediately comforted her: “Don’t be scared, we’re almost there.“[]
He pulled her into a half–embrace, gently patting her back.[]
Clarissa looked up at the three people around her with red–rimmed eyes, saying softly: “Sebastian, Mom, Dad… I thought I’d never see you again… I was so scared…“[]
Delilah’s heart ached hearing this, her hand stroking Clarissa’s trembling back: “Maybe… Sebastian should divorce Elizabeth. You two should be together. We all support it.“]
“Elizabeth should finally wake up and accept reality.“]
Delilah sighed as she spoke.[]
Before she could finish, Clarissa shook her head violently, “No… Elizabeth would be heartbroken… I love Sebastian, but I don’t want to
hurt her ”
Sebastian’s throat tightened. Seeing Clarissa still thinking of others despite her weakness made his chest ache with dull pain.
“I’ll talk to Elizabeth tomorrow,” he squeezed Clarissa’s hand. “You shouldn’t have to suffer like this.“]
Connor sighed deeply but didn’t object. After all, their adopted daughter had just escaped death–this small consolation was deserved.]
Thirty minutes later, the ambulance had barely stopped at the emergency building when Sebastian couldn’t wait any longer, carrying Clarissa as he ran inside.[]
Only after getting her into the examination room did he collapse onto a bench.[]
He thought for a moment, then pulled out his phone

“Enough!” Sebastian crushed the paper cup in his hand. “Clarissa’s been thinking about you this whole time, can’t you at least see her as a sister?”
“And after everything Clarissa’s been through, what are you still suspicious about?“]
The examination room door opened, and Sebastian shot to his feet, his phone crashing to the floor.
Clarissa lay on the hospital bed, still pale, managing a weak smile when she saw him: “Did you… talk to Elizabeth? Am I being too selfish…”

Sebastian gently pressed her hand. “When you’re discharged, we’ll get married, okay?“[]
His phone suddenly buzzed with a message from Elizabeth–just one short line: “I agree to the divorce.“]
Sebastian stared at the brief message, feeling an inexplicable emptiness.]
